Rim Runner showcases Franklin State Forest's West Rim and West Side trails along with the newly designated Head of the Crow State Park.
The course is a big trail loop that runs miles along the rim overlooking the coves on either side. The start time is intentional to get runners to the East side of the course for the sunrise.
As of 2025, the stone bridge has returned and a new overlook has been added to the ultra courses!

Course
The course is mostly runnable with typical rocks and roots for the area. There are a couple steep climbs but they’re all short. Really cool running along the rim for many miles. A few nice creeks, several miles along the rim with a few overlooks, a stone bridge you run over and even a waterfall/swimming hole right off the course.
Watch the course play out and download GPX files by following the links in the maps.
Half Marathon:
Course is a full 13.5 miles! This course takes you past two of the big overlooks, past the Northern view on Taylor (exclusive to the Half) and then joins back up with the other courses to see the waterfall and rock bluff before the finish.
50k:
The NEW 50k course includes the stone bridge that we’ve brought back to the course along with the Champion Loop.
50/100:
Two or four full loops going around the entire forest.

Updated aid station charts coming soon!

Awards
The awards have one X for each loop you completed, inspired by the Xs that marked each time a barrel was distilled.

Buckles are three layers of welded steel. The steel represents the hoops that go around whiskey barrels. These are nearly half a pound!

Half/ 50k/50 mile awards are handmade from old whiskey barrels. Sawed, sanded and branded at home by your loving RDs.

Course Record and DFL (dead fucking last) awards are halves of whiskey barrel heads, hand branded with steel plaques.

Crew
Crew can access the Start/Finish line, Sherwood Forest and Champion aid stations! Follow parking directions at all locations, please.

Pacers
Pacers are only allowed for 100 milers. They can start at mile 50. Pacers, like crew, are only allowed to enter and exit
the course at Sherwood Forest, Champion and the Start/Finish. Pacers must check in and out with aid stations when entering or leaving the course.

Drop Bags
Drop bags for ultras will be kept at the Start/Finish area and Champion aid station.

Dropping Down/DNF
100 Milers who complete at least two laps may take a 50 mile finish instead of a DNF. Finish time will be time of drop, not when mile 50 was crossed (if dropping later). You cannot place on a podium if you drop down.
